Gopher Tortoise, Seacrest Scub Natural Area, Boynton Beach, FL

This #gophertortoise is giving me that suspicious look going so far as to hiss at me. I actually didn’t get that close on my hike today in the #seacrestscrubnaturalarea in #beautifulfla #boyntonbeach #florida #fl #palmbeachcounty The Gopher tortoise is seen as a keystone species because the burrows it digs give shelter to over 360 other species. Personally I wouldn’t want to move in. Of course this does not seem to bother the Gopher tortoise which has an amazing 80 year potential life span in the wild and up to 100 years in captivity.
