This guy was snug as a bug in a rug having found a warm spot in my solar pool cover on a brisk #beautifulfla evening going into the low 40a. When I unfurled the cover he didn’t show typical skittishness I associate with out lizard friends. He was likely lethargic from the cool weather. Hope he basks in the sun and gets warm. Sandhill cranes (Grus canadensis) are long-legged, long-necked, gray, heron-like birds with a patch of bald, red skin on top of their head. the #sandhillcranes range is mostly central #florida to #southflorida and in person they make an impressive appearance. Neighbors have been raving about Natalie’s #orangejuice🍊 telling me that its the best #orangejuice around. High praise. Apparently Natalie’s has been around for over 30 years and its an outfit out of #ftpiercefl So today I made it a point to sample it. Was it good? This #gophertortoise is giving me that suspicious look going so far as to hiss at me. I actually didn’t get that close on my hike today in the #seacrestscrubnaturalarea in #beautifulfla #boyntonbeach #florida #fl #palmbeachcounty The Gopher tortoise is seen as a keystone species because the burrows it digs give shelter to over 360 other species. Personally I wouldn’t want to move in. Of course this does not seem to bother the Gopher tortoise which has an amazing 80 year potential life span in the wild and up to 100 years in captivity.
