While the palm tree is technically a tree, palms are actually more closely related to grass, corn and rice than they are to other trees. Here we see a cross section of a recently cut down queen palm tree. Most trees lay down rings as they grow every year. But not palms. Some of its cells are malleable, and others can easily flex and then return to their original position. This is the secret to their success in tropical climates where hurricane force winds can snap hardwood trees

Love Bugs. It’s definitely a #beautifulfla day for them. Apparently after mating they remain stuck together for a couple of days. #florida motorists are well acquainted with them because, unfortunately they often get caught, in pari delicto, on the windshield of many cars driving on the interstate. Perhaps they should wait until they get to the other side of #interstate4 ? #floridaexplored #lovefl #lovebugs #insects I think these two have a nice future together! (at Boynton Beach, Florida)

Roseate spoonbill - (Platalea ajaja)

All spoonbills have large, flat, spatulate bills and feed by wading through shallow water. This one is enjoying another #beautifulfla day along a tributary to the #stanleyweavercanal in #boyntonbeach #florida #birds #spoonbills #fl #floridaexplored #lovefl as with flamingos the #spoonbills acquire pink coloration for the same reason. Public Art in Sanborn Square, Boca Raton, FL

Bust of Maestro Mark S. Azzolina (Lt Col US Air Force, retired)
In the early 1950s, the site directly across from Boca Raton's Old Town Hall, formerly a bus station, sat empty. In 1953, owner of the land, Eleanor Sanborn, generously allowed the town's annual holiday celebrations to take place there. By 1955, she donated the land to the city in memory of her late husband, Boca Raton part time resident Dr. William E. Sanborn, a wealthy Detroit dentist. The small park became the city's town square, hosting numerous gatherings. As the Boca Raton Community Redevelopment Agency was established and began making improvements to the downtown district, local residents voted in 1983 to expand Sanborn Square, removing the portion of Boca Raton Road that bisected the park. Benefactors Charles and Dorothy Schmidt made this improvement possible through a generous donation of additional land just north of Boca Raton Road. In 1985, the community celebrated the dedication of the new Sanborn Square. Today, Sanborn Square remains the heart of Downtwon Boca. It is a green and shady oasis amidst all the activity of a vibrant and lively downtown district and is host to many events year round.

Another #beautifulfla morning in #bocaraton #fl The Boca Raton...

Another #beautifulfla morning in #bocaraton #fl The Boca Raton Town Hall is a Mediterranean Revival structure, originally built in 1927 as the city’s first town hall. The building’s architect was Addison Mizner and the name Mizner is featured prominently in this section of Boca Raton on park’s, streets and buildings. Mizner was primarily a resort architect and his Mediterranean Revival and Spanish Colonial Revival buildings definitely made a stamp on #southflorida where it continues to inspire building construction; in fact if people own a home desined and built by Mizner, the home will sell for a premium. Mizner Industries, still in existence today, was founded to supply the needed tiles for Mizner’s constructions. By the 1970s, Boca Raton had outgrown the building, but the city rededicated the building to be the city’s museum in 1975 and it continues in that role to this day having been placed on the #nrhp in 1980 (at Boca Raton, Florida)
