This green heron (Butorides virescens maculata) sporting breeding plumage is looking for something to eat at Green Cay Wetlands preserve in #boyntonbeach #fl #florida Sure, just another picture of a bird but what makes the #greenheron interesting is that they are known to use tools. They will use bread crusts, insects or other items as bait. They will drop the bait on the surface of the water whereupon the green heron will grab and eat the fish. Must say, that’s pretty clever! In this picture the bird has his neck tucked, ultimately the neck is capable of significant extension allowing it to lunge for fish.
